What is the Grant?
This government grant provides financial assistance for essential repairs to improve the condition of an older person’s home, allowing them to continue living independently for longer.
Qualifying for the Grant
- Age: 66 or over (exceptions may apply in cases of genuine hardship)
- Homeownership: You must own the home or have a right to live there.
- Income: The grant is means-tested based on your gross household income.
- Work Needed: The repairs must be essential for your continued safe living in the home.
What can the Grant Cover?
- Roof repairs or replacement
- Upgrading electrical wiring
- Repairing or replacing windows and doors
- Installing central heating (subject to local authority approval)
How Much Can I Get?
The amount you receive depends on your household income. Important Note: These are the current rates, however, changes are coming into effect on December 1st, 2024!
- Maximum Grant Increase: €8,000 to €10,700 (as of December 1st, 2024)
- Higher Income Limits: Currently €60,000, increasing to €75,000 (as of December 1st, 2024)
- Potential 100% Coverage: For those in the lowest income bracket (as of December 1st, 2024)
How to Apply

- Download the Application: Available online at gov.ie or your local authority website. A new updated form will be available on December 1st, 2024.
- Gather Supporting Documents: Proof of income, Local Property Tax (LPT) payment confirmation, and potentially reports from qualified professionals depending on the repairs needed.
- Submit Your Application: Do not begin work before receiving grant approval from your local authority.
