Thinking of renovating a vacant home?

The Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant could offer significant financial help. Before you apply, ensure both you and the property meet the eligibility criteria. Breffni Insulation can help with the insulation aspect of your refurbishment, but first, let’s check the grant basics:

Check Eligibility

Property Requirements:

  • Vacancy Period: The property must have been genuinely vacant (not deliberately emptied for the grant) for two years or more.
  • Construction Date: It must have been built before 2008.

Applicant Requirements:

  • Ownership: You must currently own the property or be actively in the process of buying it.
  • Intended Use: After refurbishment, you must either:
    • Live in the property as your principal private residence, OR
    • Make it available for rent (ensuring you register the tenancy with the Residential Tenancies Board).
  • Tax Compliance:
    • You need valid tax clearance from Revenue.
    • Your Local Property Tax (LPT) payments must be up-to-date, if applicable.
  • Applicant Status: You must apply as an individual – registered companies and developers are not eligible.
  • Grant Limits: You can successfully apply for this grant a maximum of two times: once for a home you will live in, and once for a home you will rent out.
