Complimentary Energy Efficiency Enhancements

If you are a homeowner of a residence constructed prior to 2006 and meet the criteria of receiving Fuel Allowance, Jobseekers Allowance for a duration exceeding six months with dependent children under 7 years of age, Working Family Payment, One-Parent Family Payment, Domiciliary Care Allowance, or Carers Allowance (while cohabiting with the individual you are caring for), you might qualify for cost-free energy efficiency upgrades!

How Does the Program Operate?

The SEAI Fully Funded Home Energy Upgrade Service (formerly recognized as the Better Energy Warmer Homes Scheme) offers insulation and energy efficiency enhancements without charge to homeowners who receive specific welfare payments. Though the eligibility criteria may be subject to occasional updates, presently, you must be a homeowner of a residence constructed before 2006 and be in receipt of;

•  Fuel Allowance as part of the National Fuel Scheme
•  Job Seekers Allowance (for over six months and have a child under seven years of age)
•  Working Family Payment
•  One-Parent Family Payment
•  Domiciliary Care Allowance
•  Carers Allowance and live with the person you are caring for
•  Disability Allowance (for over six months and have a child under seven years of age)

Unfortunately, rented homes or properties owned by a local authority are currently ineligible for participation. Additionally, if you have previously availed of the scheme, you are not eligible to apply.
It’s important to note that Breffni Insulation no longer accepts direct applications; you must submit your application through SEAI.

Included Measures

SEAI’s Fully Funded Home Energy Upgrade Service encompasses insulation upgrades, including external wall insulation, cavity wall insulation, and internal wall dry lining. The specific type of insulation you receive is determined during a site survey, taking various factors into account.

To combat heat loss, it is crucial to install draught proofing measures around openings, such as windows and external doors. Draught proofing measures are an integral part of SEAI’s Fully Funded Home Energy Upgrade Service and are provided at no cost.
As homes with enhanced insulation become more airtight, proper ventilation becomes essential to ensure a fresh and clean air supply to rooms and fuel-burning appliances. The Warmer Homes Scheme includes ventilation upgrades without any cost to the homeowner.
In specific cases, SEAI may offer upgrades to heating systems and heating controls, with the determination made during the site survey. It’s important to note that the provision of heating system or control upgrades is not guaranteed, and certain requirements must be met.
SEAI’s Fully Funded Home Energy Upgrades cover pipe and tank insulation for both cold and hot water tanks, along with associated pipework. These measures contribute to maintaining hot water temperature for longer periods and prevent pipes from freezing in cold weather.
The Fully Funded Home Energy Upgrade Scheme also provides homeowners with complimentary low-energy light bulbs, further reducing energy expenditures and the associated carbon footprint. Upon completion of the works, homeowners will receive a Building Energy Rating Certificate.
Individual Energy Upgrades

Cash Incentives for Enhancing Energy Efficiency

If you’re a homeowner with a residence constructed before 2011, and you’re contemplating enhancing the energy efficiency of your home, you could qualify for cash incentives to offset the expenses associated with a range of energy-saving measures. Whether it’s insulation or heat pumps, the greater the upgrades you undertake, the more significant your savings!

How Does the Individual Energy Upgrade Grant Scheme Operate?

The SEAI’s Individual Energy Upgrade Grant Scheme (formerly known as the Better Energy Homes Scheme) offers grants to help cover the expenses of various energy-related measures when implemented in homes constructed prior to 2011. These measures encompass insulation (attic, cavity wall, external wall insulation, internal wall dry lining), heating controls, heat pump systems, solar water heating, and solar electricity. The eligibility criteria stipulate that for insulation and heating control upgrades, the home must have been built before 2011, while for heat pump systems, solar water heating, and solar electricity systems, the construction date should be prior to 2021. Moreover, homes seeking heat pump system upgrades must be certified as heat pump ready. It’s important to note that the administration of SEAI’s Individual Energy Upgrade Grant Scheme is not handled by us. To avail of these grants, you must directly engage with SEAI.
